Submarine Veteran to be evicted if he shows US Flag
Yes – unbelievable as it is …
In Springfield, Oregon a Submarine Service veteran of the 1960s has been sent notice that he will be evicted from his Government subsidized housing if he hangs the American Flag, the one the Army send him for his father serving in WWII, or any American Flag outside his apartment.
Edward Zivica was force to sign a “compliance notice” to the apartment complex because Zivica does not have any option to move because he is 70 years old. So he has to “knucle under” as he puts it and sign the “confession”.
Zivica received the threat of eviction after he hung the flag on Oct. 27 for Navy Day. He has a tradition of hanging the flag on the certain special days of Navy Day and Veterans Day.

The apartment complex is managed by St. Vincent de Paul of Lane County, Oregon. It opened it in 2009 and Zivica was one of the first tenants. The CEO of St. Vincent de Paul is Terry McDonald, who gave a nice sounding, albeit flimsy reason for the obviously disrespectful notice sent to Zivica.
The American Flag is different from any other flag of symbol. It is not just another flag. It doesn’t matter a hill of beans if some moronic management company cannot understand that.
My position is that there should never be any rule that forbids the American Flag from being displayed at any time, for any reason and at any location. Period. How does an American Flag violate anyone’s property rights?
