Another installment of my 1790 portrait study

| April 30, 2011

I finished another installment of my photographic study of the 1790 settlement in middle Tennessee known as “Mansker’s Station”.

Here, one of the first settlers to come to the area just north of what is now Nashville. The man is enjoying a wilderness stew prepared in the fort’s kitchen as he listens to an announcement of a possible raid by indians soon to come.

His demeanor is of surprise but tempered by a bit of amusement. He has helped repel attacks to the settlement fort before.
