Who was Chris Stevens ?
He is the most mentioned
American in the news
headlines today.
Yet – he is not being mentioned
by name as yet.
However, the media is only mentioning him
as “The US Ambassador to Libya”
He died in service to America as we were mourning the 11th year after the terrible attack on our soil.
He had a family. People who knew him better than we did. They loved him like we could only understand in the way we love members of our own family.
Why do people such as this put themselves in harm’s way for our great nation? Surely he did not consider the aspect of harm but more what he could do in making the world a better place by promoting the greatness of The United States.
Not all of us can be ambassadors. Not all of us can be President of the United States. Not all of us can be defenders on the front lines of danger to freedom outside of our borders. Not all of us can command men that depend on safety in our leadership.
But that does not mean we do not lead – or serve – or make a difference to others. There is no less important a position or job or voice to a real American. We are all on the same level when we heed our own calling. No matter what that calling is – from gardener to soldier to chef to truck driver to entrepreneur to teacher to builder to statesman to parent or homemaker.
We all in our own way protect freedom from enemies foreign and domestic.
Chris obviously did what he was led to do. And now there are people who love him who are hurting at his loss – as we also hurt at the loss of someone who choose to serve all of America.
Put a name to people who give all.
Chris was born in northern California. He taught English as a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco. He was involved in international trade law. He arrived in Libya just a few months ago as our ambassador there.
