Sorry, Chicken Little – the sky is not falling …
Bleary-eyed from the long marathon of post-production sessions, I awaken to yet more coverage of this little hurricane that has the “Big Apple” in another one of its self-centered tirades … and YES – I am using tirade properly in this situation …
Sure – storms are serious. Everything in life is serious. Even comedy is serious business.
I can’t even count how many hurricanes I went through growing up just 15 minutes drive from the Gulf of Mexico. I do remember the two eyes I lived through in my much younger days. I remember a sort of third eye and being on the roof in the middle of it doing a bit of repair back about 20 or so years ago.
I remember all the stories that my paternal grandmother told me about living through the 1935 big hurricane that swept through her town of Miami that year. They sought shelter in the rail station. She witnessed the wind tear a newborn baby from its mother’s arms to be never seen again.
Yes – hurricanes are serious situations. Overreactions are more damaging.
When one was coming – the plan is always to make sure we had the board games out and decks of cards. We already had plenty of food along with candles and/or flashlights available. We would fill up the bathtub for an added water source just in case and have a inside camp out.

We never got 24hr coverage a day for several days leading into the storm – no matter how sever it was going to be.
But let one potentially come near NYC and it seems like it’s the end of the world !!!
So now I flip the channels … the news people are trying to keep up the terror and anguish of what might happen as the storm continues to dissipate. They boast of 90 “plus” MPH “gusts” and the thing is just now reaching the tip of North Carolina.
The President yesterday went ahead and declared New York State a federal disaster area. WAY before a single drop of rain fell ! This was in “anticipation” of the widespread damage that would occur … how sweet is that? What about the other states … hmmmmm ???? The big “O” is just really uncaring about hiding his politicalizations anymore apparently. It’s all about favoritism anyway.
So now I can only flip around. There’s Kieth Overblown on that channel no one watches anymore reading from a book. What the heck is up with that ??? There is “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” on one of the movie channels. HBO is showing Pee Wee Herman on Broadway … Cinemax is showing a doc on That failed feminist named Gloria …
These “news” channels are continuing to be more and more like the boy who cried wolf. Overreactions and playing the fear card for the sake of ratings. It’s hard to find news anymore – like trying to find music videos on MTV.
Or – I could take time to add to my blog that I have been neglecting lately because of my production schedule being so full. Hmmmmm ….
