Eat Kimbap – Not Sushi
Again – it’s all over the news … Salmonella from sushi !!!
Like in this New York Daily News article. Another outbreak of salmonella from people eating sushi.
There’s a great alternative to sushi – and it goes way back further. KIMBAP!
Kimbap is a Korean roll that uses …
… COOKED ingredients.
KIM = Kelp … BAP = cooked rice
There’s a lot of varieties, as you can put anything you want into it. Traditionally, it’s a layer of a sheet of grilled kelp with a layer of cooked rice, then strips of stir fried egg, stir fried carrot, spinach, stir fried beef and pickled radish. Along with a light trickle of sesame oil. That’s the most common.
But Kimbap can have just about anything on top of the kelp and rice.
I like mine without the radish, with a sprinkle of roasted sesame seeds.
I also love it with turkey, egg and cheese ! There is a common variety of American cheese kimbap enjoyed in Korea. Sorta like a breakfast burrito but with the kelp and rice rather than the flour tortilla.
I’ve seen and tried all kinds – even with hot dogs ! Even avocado goes well.
Toasted kelp is quite delicious, quick and easy to make.
Crab meat makes an awesome kimbap roll.
Just roll it up and slice it into medallions.
I like to dip mine in Korean mixing soy sauce (kanjang) with a dash of gyoza sauce – but no one does that in Korea. It’s like dipping a fries in mayonnaise hehehe … but i love it.
The point is – IT’s ALL COOKED.
Personally, it’s a mystery to me why anyone would eat meat – especially fish – ESPECIALLY TUNA or SALMON raw …
why gamble with your health?
