Nashville Brand of Humor ~ Our Music City Personality
There is a running gag line in Nashville …
“You’re so Nashville, …”
It’s sort of like the old Joke that Johnny Carson liked to tell –
“Today, it was so hot … “
To which the audience would all chant in unison:
“HOW HOT WAS IT?”
Johnny would react every time like it was the first time an audience responded like that …
In the same way Jackie Gleason would talk about the previous night’s audience but saying the present audience was the best he ever had …
Riiiiiight …. But I digress …
There is a very different vibe in Nashville. Just as any community has their own peculiar personality. But Nashville is particularly peculiar – in a good way.
One of the most representative of the Nashville melting pot in Mark Lowry.
It is an art to represent oneself as so very child-like yet have the brilliance to entertain with an expertice in comedic timing, gush and butter up the signatory on his paycheck just enough as necessary and to construct story telling in an arena primarily set to music.
… same poly-rhythmic complexities as bluegrass and jazz to the point it is missed if not included into a Gospel Music concert.
Great craftsmanship
is made to look easy.
By the way …
The most popular “You’re so Nashville” joke going around these days is:
“You’re so Nashville – you’re from L.A.”
But that’s a subject to get into some other time …
