Whatever happened to …

| January 1, 2013

Remember the famous line –

“NT would destroy Unix” ?

Whatever happened to that?

I think it was uttered by the same guy that said computers would never need more than 640Kbytes of ram …

Now, it’s all about flavors of the generic LINUX OS – because Unix is a trademarked flavor.

Of course, there are servers in the world running a Windows server OS while (most) others run Linux …

Is this just a Ford VS Chevy thing?

Hardly …

If it were up to me – I’d still be living in a time when having an S-100 mainframe with separate processor cards – one running DOS – one running Linux – and another running CP/M … was state of the art !

I miss that IMSAI 8080

Fast-forward to now ... and it has now been confirmed apparently that Win 8 with a firmware routine will prevent a machine from having another OS put on it to either dual boot or replace it with an older version of Windows or get rid of W8 all together to use something like PC Linux OS …

Shame, shame … !

Of course – the more one entity clamps down, the more opportunity an alternate choice has to take hold … just ask anyone in the music business about how the RIAA contributed to the destruction of the Music Industry as we know it …

… but I digress …

Then again – if said entity can force there to be no choice at all … ahhh … history repeats yet again causing misery for a season … and the eventual downfall of the oppressor …

Competition in a free market always leads to prosperity and happiness. This is not opinion – it is reality.

As well as healthy brands to choose from … Coke & Pepsi … Ford & Chevy … Walmart & Target … Wii VS Xbox …ad infinitum adnausium …
